Monteverde in Costa Rica is a great ecotourism destination located approximately 110 miles from San José, the capital city. It is about 1300 meters above sea level so its temperature is cool. Two main seasons are characteristic of the region: the rainy season from May to the end of October and the dry season from January to April.

Monteverde is one of the most outstanding wildlife refuges thanks to its rich biodiversity and its great variety of flora and fauna, including over 410 species of birds. The Monteverde Cloud Forest is one of the most popular places of Costa Rica, recommended to nature lovers.

It is a great town to spend some days where we will recommend visiting the Cloud Forest, galleries (painting, photographs and sculpture) and souvenir shops. There are daily guided walks to the Cloud Forest but you have to be aware that the natural reserve only allows 100 people at the same time as a conservational policy to preserve the wildlife.

Other activities available in Monteverde are: canopy tours, hiking trails, sky walk, horseback riding, waterfalls sights, butterfly garden, serpentarium and much more.

Please be aware that driving to Monteverde should be done on a 4x4 vehicle DURING A CLEAR DAY ONLY, do not drive under heavy rainfall or at night. A dirt road, road-side cliffs, and lack of road signs results into a high risk route.
