Golfito is located at the northeast shore of Golfo Dulce at approximately 350km from San Jose. In the 1920s the banana company of Costa Rica founded the port, and in 1984 this company stopped its production and gave most of its land to the estate and one year later was declared a National Refugee of Wildlife.
In 1990 the country made this area a duty free zone. Also it is known for its great ecotourism where lots of tourists come to visit the National park, the Botanic garden and to do boat trips around the Gulf.
Around Golfito you will find lots of beautiful beaches that have an abundance of wildlife.
