The Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge is located in northern region of Costa Rica, just a few miles from border of Nicaragua. It is one of the most ecologically diverse sites in the country and considered by experts to be one of the most important wetlands in the world.

Caño Negro is the habitat of many migrant and endangered species of fish, reptiles, birds and plants. Home to a number of the world’s rare plant, animal and bird species. No doubt a nature paradise, it was named ‘Wetland of International Importance’ in 1991.

Caño Negro Refuge is over 800 hectares in extension located in a region of extreme biological importance due to the immense variety of flora and fauna found here. Caño Negro is the first national refuge to enforce Sustainable Tourism activities while enjoying all of its biological resources. An educational experience for all!
