Northern Region of Costa Rica / Arenal
Arenal is located in the northern region, in the Guanacaste Mountain Range, north of the Tilarán range and part of the plains of San Carlos. It belongs to the Tilarán, San Carlos and San Ramón districts.
The main attraction of the Park is its Arenal volcano that has 1633 mts of altitude. During a lot of time it was considered extinct until in 1968 it made a big eruption and destroyed one town. Then after a calm period in 1981 Arenal volcano was active again and it remains until today. Apart from taking in the majestic view of the volcano in constant activity, you can also enjoy activities such as rafting, horseback riding tours, waterfall visits, hikes, hot springs and mud baths, as well as windsurfing and kayaking on Lake Arenal.
